Conducts college or graduate level courses in the field of medicine. Areas of instruction include the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, preventative medicine, medical specialties, and patient interaction. May be responsible for preparing and delivering lectures and leading classroom discussions. May administer and grade examinations or delegate the task to others. Conducts research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. May offer independent study opportunities to students. May require a doctorate degree in area of specialty and 4-6 years of experience in the field or in a related area. May require a license to practice medicine. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. May lead and direct the work of others. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to a department head.
