Manages the day to day operations of the police department for a college or university. Oversees patrol officers and agents, ensuring the preservation of the chain of command within the department and the discipline of the officers. Responsibilities may include developing and implementing training programs; managing special units; directing the preparation of special reports; reviewing reports from officers; and assigning officers in accordance to specific needs. May require a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and/or additional certifications and at least 5 years of experience in the field. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to top management.
