Job Description for Emergency Dispatcher

Responsible for responding to calls for emergency and non-emergency assistance and in dispatching law enforcement, fire fighting, or rescue units. Transmits and receives coded and conventional messages, differentiates between routine, priority, and emergency messages, and initiates or follows through on responses as required. May enter unit response and data into database. Requires a high school diploma with 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks.
