Aids hospital staff and physicians in the care of patients with stomas, draining wounds, fistulae, incontinence, or potential or actual tissue trauma. Plans, assesses, and promotes enterostomal patient education needs and care in accordance with hospital policies and by developing and updating programs. Requires a degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing with current licensure as a Registered Nurse. Also requires 2-4 years of nursing experience. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. May lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
