Supervises and performs duties in the medical records department for a healthcare organization. Monitors the coding and overall maintenance of records and tracks data related to patient status. Ensures that all health information management practices meet JCAHO and state standards. Oversees budgeting, quality improvement, hiring, evaluation and supervision, etc. May require RHIA/RHIT certification. Requires a bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department.
