Prepares and maintains medical equipment for surgical procedures. Prepares operating room and patient for surgery. Performs pre-operation preparations to the patient's skin, body and medical equipment. Assists the surgical team with donning sterile gowns and gloves. Observes patients' vital signs, checks charts, and provides instruments, sutures, and other sterile supplies during the surgical procedure. Assists in the preparation, care, and disposing of specimens taken for laboratory analysis and helps apply dressings to patients. Follows hospital regulations and industry procedures to tend to patient during pre-operation procedures. May be required to transport patient to and from the operating room. Typically requires graduation from an accredited surgical technologist program. Must be certified to perform CPR. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent.
