Administers the nursing program in a nursing home in order to maintain standards of patient care; advises management, patient care staff and administrators in matters related to nursing service. Recommends establishment or revision of policies and develops organizational structure and standards of performance. Interprets policies and objectives of nursing service to staff and community groups. Typically requires an advanced degree in nursing and is licensed as a registered nurse. May require at least 8 years of experience in the nursing field. Generally manages professional staff. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to top management or a facility administrator.
