Job Description

The Expert Tool Design Engineer studies blueprints and determines tool specifications and requirements by interfacing with manufacturing staff to determine the best design for the tool. Designs a wide variety of tools consistent with standard tool configuration, including cutting and forming tools. Being an Expert Tool Design Engineer works with engineering to identify problems with performance or tool life and recommends solutions or enhancements. Performs calculations to determine exact dimensions, materials required and cost of the tools. In addition, Expert Tool Design Engineer may submit bids to purchase tools as a cost saving alternative. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Being an Expert Tool Design Engineer works on advanced, complex technical projects or business issues requiring state of the art technical or industry knowledge. Works autonomously. Goals are generally communicated in solution or project goal terms. May provide a leadership role for the work group through knowledge in the area of specialization.
