The Medical Records Coding Trainer ensures the accuracy and timeliness of the coding process. Supervises and trains coding staff to ensure that the hospital receives appropriate reimbursement and conforms to applicable guidelines and regulations. Being a Medical Records Coding Trainer may require a bachelor's degree. Knowledge in ICD-10 and CPT-4 coding required. In addition, Medical Records Coding Trainer typically reports to top management. May require AAPC or AHIMA coding certification. The Medical Records Coding Trainer manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes. Working as a Medical Records Coding Trainer typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 to 3 years supervisory experience may be required.
